Frozen Kingdoms

In the Frozen Kingdoms project, your child will learn about the regions of the Arctic and Antarctic. They will learn about the similarities and differences between these two regions, including the climate, landscape and natural resources. Also, pupils will investigate polar oceans to learn how they differ from other oceans on Earth. The children will research climate change and how increases in the Earth's temperature is leading to rising sea levels. In addition, they will learn about the indigenous people of the Arctic, including how their lives have changed over time, and about the positives and negatives of tourism in Antarctica. Finally, they will also learn about classifying animals, animal adaptations and evolution as well as polar exploration and discovery.

How you can support your child’s learning:

  • Explore maps and geography: Look at a world map or globe together to find the Arctic and Antarctic. Talk about how these regions are similar and different.
  • Discuss climate change: Watch child-friendly videos or read books about climate change, rising sea levels, and its impact on the polar regions.
  • Research polar animals: Research animals like penguins, polar bears, and whales. Discuss how they adapt to survive in cold climates.
  • Explore polar exploration: Share stories or watch documentaries about famous polar explorers and their discoveries.
